GDevelop suddenly starts using alot of power

Hi, So, GDevelop has now nowadays suddenly starts using alot of power without any clear reason. It might be at idle and even before doing anything it starts taking more and more memory and CPU

Like, here I was just editing a action and it froze and started using nearly 50% of the CPU.

I have seen some people have the same or related problem. So, I tried getting as much info as I can about it.

Here is the tree list of the processes when GDevelop crashed,

The pic is a bit blurry as the process names are really long and I wanted to get the whole name. These pictures might help

The process that is taking the most amount of memory

Here is the system info:

Hi,
Thanks for the report!
Does GDevelop freeze when it happens?
Does it keep on working and eventually stops using much cpu?
Which beta version do you use?

Yes! It freezes when it happens. I had it running for a long time even after it froze, and it was still usjng a lot of power. I am on beta108

PS: one of the image was not the right one, so I have replaced it

Can you confirm if the function/behavior editor is open when it happens?
Or if you are working on variables?
For me, it happens when I move events around, especially inside the function editor.

We’re aware of the problem, but we need to find steps to reproduce the issue, to forward them to the devs.

You can also have a look here, read 4ian’s tips on how to investigate:

No, the function/behaviour editor was not open. Not was I working with variables. I was just editing events and I was not sure if I was moving around events, but I was at that time moving around a lot of events here and there

Hi, so GDevelop crashed again and I was able to get the console logs.

Here are the logs that happened just before the cautions:

Here are some cautions that happened before it crashed (I was renaming the animations of sprites):

Here is the one error the console had, I think it happens all the time for all of my projects:

I was adding an object to the scene and it froze, them after some time a white blank window. For some reason, it happened twice, when I was adding that same object. It is a global object (I was adding the object to another scene).

The first time, I had the function editor open
The second time, I didn’t (I think, I am not sure)
EDIT: It happened the third time I did it too

Hope it helps!

If you can zip the project folder i can take a look.
All these warnings are just to said that sprites are already loaded and there is no reason to update these files because there is no change.

For the command warning it’s a bit like the images, we don’t register the command because the command is already registered.

For the error i guess to a missing resource without the complete error i can’t said more, but it pointing on your document folder, i guess it pointing on your game folder and a missing resource file.

This project is the new breakout example I am working on. Th problem is with GDevelop WaterMark. go to the “Game” scene. Make the WaterMark Object Global. Go to the “Menu” scene and try to add it to the scene. It should crash.

If you first make it global then save it, close GDevelop. ANd reopen it and try to add the object, it works fine

Here is the project: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hLhUFJGbTcr7HWvBLF5rGxmfJUKfO5-q/view?usp=sharing

Oh cool i can reproduce the crash !
This error has been reported lot of time these last weeks!
I’ll open a complete bug report with the details, i hope 4ian can fix it.
